Elemental Group Taranaki Technology Challenge 2016

Elemental Group Ltd. have continued their proud sponsorship of the Elemental Group Taranaki Technology Challenge, 2016. The Challenge tests the technology and building skills of 11 to 13 year old school children in the Taranaki district. Involving teamwork and creative solutions the Elemental Group Taranaki Technology Challenge is an excellent experience for the kids who participate. The event was opened by Nick Jackson, whose speech highlighted the global challenges faced by all and the need for teamwork in meeting these challenges.

This year, the prepared challenge was to make a golf putting device that can accurately putt a golf ball a distance of 5 meters. Entrants were judged on Design, Aesthetics, accompanying Portfolio and Putting Accuracy. Models were built to a very high standard, making the judges jobs very difficult. The final test was accuracy and the winner was the team from Egmont Vocational School.

The judging this year was carried out by Carolin Boxheimer (Elemental Group) Shane Treacy (Elemental Group) and Richard Thompson (Transit NZ).

Elemental Group Ltd. would like to acknowledge the tremendous effort put in by all the participants and y by the organisers, John Cooksley, Chris Pollard and Ailsa Bold of the Devon Intermediate Technology Department.

Much to the regret of Elemental Group and GNS, the Sequence Stratigraphy course planned for Cape Kidnappers from the 7th to the 11th of March has been postponed. A minimum number of attendees is required to make the course feasible and due to the current down-turn, this has not been possible.

We apologise if the postponement has impacted upon your calendar.

We intend to offer the course again in the near future.
