The overall goal of the ‘Renewable Energy Training for Ministry of Electricity and Energy (MOEE) staff’ initiative was to strengthen the capability of professional staff working in MOEE, to plan and manage the development of Myanmar’s renewable energy sector.
This New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) initiative was led by the Geothermal Institute of the University of Auckland (UoA), headed by Professor Rosalind Archer, and Elemental Group were the delivery partner.
Module 1 was Grid Integration, and Elemental Group and our partners delivered Module 2; Project Economics for RE.
In order to fulfil the outcomes of the initiative, the team combined knowledge and experience from both academic and practical industry sources, and experts from leading engineering and energy consultancies who have significant experience in implementation of renewable energy projects in Asia, including Elemental Group.
The outcomes achieved strengthened capability of relevant MOEE staff to:
• Understand relevant aspects of renewable energy development and utilisation in Myanmar: including technical, commercial, economic, environmental and social considerations
• Manage sector planning to enable renewable energy uptake
• Evaluate, negotiate and manage renewable energy development proposals from Independent Power Producers (IPP).
