Hanmer Springs have been making headlines lately for their innovative use of the methane from their hydrothermal waters. Here is the article from Stuff, and one here from OneNews.
Elemental Group wish to congratulate Graeme, Neil and all the team at Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa, and everyone who has worked on this project, for their perseverance in bringing this worthwhile endeavour to fruition. We’ve enjoyed being part of their decade-long journey towards energy efficiency and look forward to assisting them manage their mining permit over the next 40 years.
Our involvement in the project covered:
· Assistance with obtaining the permit to extract the methane (the PMP)

· Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

· Design and manage a wireline logging programme to assess their hot water and gas resource.

We continue to assist them with managing the PMP under the Crown Minerals Act (CMA) and Petroleum Regulations.
Last month, the project won the EECA Innovation Award at the annual business awards, and “EECA technology and innovation manager Dinesh Chand said the Hanmer Springs team’s emissions-reducing technology was a first for New Zealand and could pave the way for others to follow suit”.
